Issue 6 Progress & SPX!
Hello Starside readers! We hope you have all been staying sufficiently cool during this hot, hot summer. We’ve been spending our summer mostly indoors as we usually do, watching the latest shows, playing video games, catching fun movies like Nope, and, of course, working on Starside! Starside #6 will be coming to you on Kickstarter later this year! While Jordan works on the art, Dylan and I are putting some finishing touches on the dialogue. Today we want to give you a little taste of what’s to come in this issue! Issue 6 picks up right where #5 left off, with Jack and Riggs taken captive by the shady Erzema Techworks thugs. In their makeshift prison, the two interact with a mysterious stranger. Check out the first two pages below!
Though it isn't finished yet, we also wanted to share with you an early draft of the cover for this upcoming issue! Its abstract vibe is inspired by M.C. Escher's work. Since most of the issue takes place in the lower levels of Erzema Techworks, we came up with this idea to get across a claustrophobic feeling. Check it out!
We’ve also been working on the script for issue 7. Since it will be the conclusion to Starside’s first story arc, it feels like there’s extra pressure on us to get it just right, and it can be hard to get in the headspace to work on it. But we are currently on draft number 1.5, and our next step is to do another pass through it to make sure the dialogue makes sense and is true to who our characters are.
We also have some exciting news: we’re going to SPX! SPX is the Small Press Expo in Bethesda, Maryland, which has been an annual convention focusing on indie and small press comics since 1994! This will be our first time at SPX and we are very excited, since it’s different from any other convention we’ve been to.
SPX is on September 17-18 this year. If you’re in the area and/or planning to go to SPX, we hope you’ll stop by our table! Our table number is M13. You can learn more about the expo here.
That’s it for this quick update! If you missed the last email, where we took a deep dive into the making of issue 5, you can read it on our blog here!
Thank you so much for tuning in! We can’t wait to share more with you in the next update.
